I just came across this post on ”The Online Photographer” – a couple of minutes after browsing through this set of photos (sorry, captions are in German only. For background info on the recent explosion in the oil refinery in Dalian, please visit e.g. The New York Times).
My point with respect to Mikes above mentioned post on the imminent death of professional photojournalism: I’m rather sure that only very, very few non-professionals would be able to capture the event in a similar quality. It actually bears the question on whether the quality of proessional photojournalists is even too good, whether the articistic quality of the photos brushes over the human and ecological tragedy of the desaster…
Thomas, who wholeheartedly enjoys not having the opportunity to capture similar pictures, despite a substantial oil harbour in Gothenburg. I’ll gladly stay with sunshine, a great shoreline and some geese.
