Are you still spending time in photo forums? Which ones?
My reason for asking: I have just been browsing through my bookmarks (yeah, I guess I really haven’t had anything better to do….). And I discovered that I have quite a few links to photo-forums in which I was rather active for a while. For some reason I let that lapse, and I’m wondering why. Some of the forums are just too technical (i.e. only gear, but nothing else), so I guess that’s an easy explanation why I lost interest after a while. But there are others that were more rewarding, and still…
Maybe I should make a conscious effort and take stock which ones are (still) out there and which ones could be interesting… So, any good suggestions?
And, yes, it’s back. Wnter I mean. After a couple of warmer day, with a lot of snow melt, we’re back to some decent degrees below freezing point. But you can already feel that the days are really getting longer.
And, despite all the wide-screen monitors, I still haven’t found a decent way to put very-landscapish photos online in a decent way. Ah, whatever…

I don’t visit photo forums much at all. I think that I like the more personal nature of the blog. I might visit a forum when I need/want specific information or if it is a specialty forum, like APUG … you know, for us neanderthals who still dabble in film.
I was quite active in the Minolta related forums for a while, but have been quiet probably for a year now. Gear doesn’t interest me that much, having realized that the weakest part of my image production is behind the viewfinder
And http://www.whattheduck.net/ says it all.
Oh yes, and your landscapish landscape is very fine, cold and quiet as I would expect the Swedish winter to be. Image size of course is a difficult question: make it too large and some people may steal, make it too small and it looses impact. Hard to find the balance, I have to admit. I usually go with 1024px horizontal, 900px vertical in the large version, and 645×750 in the posting.
The what the duck link should correctly be http://www.whattheduck.net/strip/174%20Sunday
Hi Paul,
isn’t it strange that forums are usually so technical? Maybe it’s related to the number of people involved?
Hi Markus,
Sorry, but the link to WTD still doesn’t work, but I certainly get your point. And the more technically advanced the cameras get, the more obvious it becomes…

Sometimes even copy&paste produces weird results.
Who said that computers can’t be creative…
But, yes, the strip says it all!
No, no foras at all, for the moment. I used to be on the Leica User Forum, but many there are so immensely cranky and get on my nerves. I can’t stand their words.
On certain fora, you really have to tip-toe to not offend, and that one is definitely such a one.
