Re. the Bill Brandt images: My first feeling was admiration for his masterly craftsmanship and the personality he works out of the animals, but what at one hand causes awe at the same time creates concern that by this indivdualisation especially in the portrait like images the animals are preparated out of nature, of their habitat, their behaviour. These images got me thinking, for sure, and in this way they are effective. But the out-of-this-world image qualities could make them consumables in the same way as high-gloss pin-ups are.
