Well, it’s still winter up here. But kind of boring winter – no real frost, just wet and dull. Time for some books. On the photography side: I just finished “On this earth” by Nick Brandt. Absolutely marvelous! If you ever got a kick from black and white photography: that’s the book to buy. Seriously. I’m not a particular Africa- or Safari-fan, but I’ve never seen animals in such a posture and portrayed with such character.
Some of his photos are presented online in the young gallery. Watch yourself – and then get the book!

Thomas, if this is your “wet and dull” winter, then it has at least highly photogenic aspects. This image of a winter night is definitely working for me.
Re. the Bill Brandt images: My first feeling was admiration for his masterly craftsmanship and the personality he works out of the animals, but what at one hand causes awe at the same time creates concern that by this indivdualisation especially in the portrait like images the animals are preparated out of nature, of their habitat, their behaviour. These images got me thinking, for sure, and in this way they are effective. But the out-of-this-world image qualities could make them consumables in the same way as high-gloss pin-ups are.
